Data Matching Program

The Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection (DIBP) has announced that it will be providing the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) with the names, addresses and other details of visa holders, their employers or sponsored and their registered migration agents for the financial years of 2013 to 2017.

The DIBP estimates that the records of approximately 1,000,000 people will be provided to the ATO.

The purpose of this data matching programme is to ensure that visa holders and employers are meeting their Australian taxation obligations.

The data that will be provided to the ATO by the Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection are:

  • Names of visa applicants, employers, sponsors and migration agents
  • Address history of visa applicants, employers, sponsors and migration agents
  • Contact history of visa applicants, employers, sponsors and migration agents
  • Details of visa grants
  • Visa status
  • International travel movements by visa holders
