In recent years, The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) have increased the visa application charges for many visas including sponsored skilled visa, working holiday visa and partner visas by over 200 percent, while the cost of the skilled graduate visas increased by over 500 percent.
The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service has commenced another review into Australia’s border related fees and charges on behalf of Immigration and Border Protection Portfolio.
The Immigration and Border Protection portfolio is the second biggest ‘tax collector’ in Australia. Each year border agencies collect about $3 billion in revenue for immigration and border related fees and charges each year, however it costs over $6 billion a year to protect and administer Australia’s borders.
Given the above figures, there is every indication that there will be a significant increase in visa application charges as a result of this review.
